Custom Forged Rings

The steps and techniques involved in manufacturing custom forged rings are as follows:

Manufacturing Custom Forged Rings

Material Selection and Preparation

• The process starts with selecting the appropriate material for the ring. Common materials used include steel, stainless steel, titanium, aluminum, and special alloys.
• A cylindrical billet or metal ingot is cut to the desired size and heated to a high temperature to make it malleable.

Piercing and Punching

• The heated billet is placed in a press, where a hole is punched through the center to create a hollow donut shape. This initial piercing is done to ensure a consistent structure.

Ring Rolling

• The hollow piece is then placed on a mandrel (a supporting rod), and pressure is applied using a set of rollers that gradually stretch the metal. This action increases the ring’s diameter while reducing its wall thickness, resulting in a seamless ring.
• The ring rolling process is typically performed using advanced CNC machinery to ensure precision and consistency.

Heat Treatment

• After forming, the ring is subjected to heat treatment processes like quenching, annealing, or tempering. This enhances the mechanical properties, such as toughness, ductility, and hardness.

Machining and Finishing

• The forged ring may undergo additional machining operations such as turning, drilling, or milling to achieve the final dimensions and surface finish.
• Surface finishing techniques like polishing, coating, or painting may also be applied, depending on the application requirements.

Quality Control

• Each ring is inspected using non-destructive testing methods like ultrasonic testing, dye penetrant inspection, or magnetic particle inspection to detect any internal or surface defects.
• Dimensional accuracy is checked to ensure the rings meet the required specifications.
