Examples of the Forged Flange Face Types WOT Manufactures

Forged flanges are manufactured with various machined face types, each suited for different applications and requirements. The face of a forged flange often corresponds to its intended use, the type of connections it will make, and the pressure it needs to withstand. Here are the common face types:

Flat Face (FF): These have a flat surface and are typically used when the connecting equipment or flanges are made of a softer material, such as cast iron or plastic. The flat surface prevents damage to the flange or the gasket.

Raised Face (RF): These flanges have a small raised portion around the bore that compresses the gasket. This is the most common type used in process plant applications, providing a higher pressure seal than flat face flanges.

Ring Type Joint (RTJ): Featuring a groove cut into their face to accept a steel ring gasket, RTJ flanges are used for high-pressure or high-temperature applications, ensuring a tight seal.

Tongue and Groove (T&G): These consist of a pairing where one flange has a raised ring (tongue) that fits into a corresponding groove in the other flange. This design helps in aligning the flanges and provides a tight seal with the use of a gasket.

Male and Female (M&F): Similar to tongue and groove, one flange has a protruding edge (male) that fits into a recess (female) in the other flange. This type also aids in alignment and sealing but differs in the shape of the mating surfaces.

Each forged flange face has its specific advantages and uses, depending on the requirements of the system they are to be integrated into, including pressure ratings, alignment, sealing capabilities, and ease of installation or maintenance.
